The Power of Mindset: How to Shift from Surviving to Thriving

By Roni Millard, Founder of The Wellbeing Edge

Our mindset shapes our reality.
How we think about challenges, setbacks, and opportunities literally determines the life we create for ourselves.

It’s not just about “positive thinking.” It’s about intentional thinking. Conscious thinking.
Empowered thinking.

Mindset is everything.

For me—and for my family—it’s not just a concept. It’s a way of life.
The growth mindset is something we live and breathe. We teach it. We model it. We hold each other accountable to it.

Because here’s what I’ve learned:

The people who thrive in life aren’t the ones who avoid hardship.
They’re the ones who face it, lean into it, and choose a new lens to look through.

They say, “Here we go,” and strap in. They find the lesson. They rewrite the story. They don’t let fear take the wheel.

The Mind is a Tool. Learn to Use It.

We all have negative thoughts. We all experience fear.
But what matters is what we do with it.

I’ve learned to talk to my fear out loud. I thank it for showing up (it’s trying to protect me, after all), and then I politely ask it to sit in the back seat. Because I’m driving now. And fear is not allowed to take the wheel.

I refuse to give my power away—to people, to situations, or to circumstances that don’t serve me.
Not anymore. Not for longer than I need to process and move forward.

When you understand how your mind works, you can make it work for you. And that’s where everything changes.

Inspiration from the Greats

I’ve been deeply inspired by the likes of Dr. Joe Dispenza and Bob Proctor—giants in the world of mindset and human potential.

Dr. Joe’s story is especially powerful: after a serious accident left him with a broken spine and little hope, he used visualisation and mental discipline to heal himself—without surgery. It’s an extraordinary example of the mind-body connection and the healing power we all carry inside us.

That story changed me. Because it reminded me of what I already believed:

The human mind can heal. The human spirit can overcome. The fire within us cannot be extinguished.

5 Strategies to Reframe Negative Thoughts and Strengthen Your Mindset

Here are five mindset shifts I return to every single day:

  1. Name the Fear, Then Claim the Power

Acknowledge what’s making you anxious or afraid—but don’t let it lead. Talk to it. Then take back the steering wheel.

  1. Flip the Meaning

Every situation has a story. Choose the one that empowers you. Ask: “How can this challenge serve me?”

  1. Ask Better Questions

Instead of “Why me?”, ask “What’s this here to teach me?” or “How can I grow from this?”

  1. Visualise the Outcome You Want

Your mind doesn’t know the difference between real and imagined experiences. Picture yourself overcoming. Again and again. Until your brain starts believing it.

  1. Keep a ‘Resilience Record’

Write down the times you got back up. The times you faced fear and won. Keep them close. Read them when life gets loud. You’ve done it before—and you’ll do it again.

No matter where you are right now, no matter what’s happened—you have the power to rewrite your story.
Not tomorrow. Not when things calm down. Now.

You are not just here to survive. You’re here to thrive.
And it all starts in your mind.
